Today was gray all day and I needed a down day so read most of the day. I need that once in awhile.
Ted, not one to let the grass grow under his feet went for a bike ride in the morning before going up to Lake Louise and kayaking the whole perimeter of the lake. He said the sun came out intermittently up there and the water was fairly calm. He saw a couple marmots in his travels as well as people on horses on the trail and a couple of mountain climbers scaling the steep cliffs.
After he had been back awhile, we closed up and drove to the dump station for fresh water and to dump. It is always so busy in the mornings that we thought we should get it done so we could just head to Jasper without waiting. Just opposite our campsite we saw people walking through the woods to the tracks and looking down them with binoculars. There were three Parc Canada trucks parked nearby and a fourth drove up as we drove by. We expect there had been a bear in the campground but we missed seeing it. While at the dump station we heard a couple of shots, probably rubber bullets to scare the bear away.
