Ted ran errands in the morning while I caught up on our blog. In the afternoon we went over to Bonnie and Tim's and we all sat around outside in the shade telling stories and reminiscing. It was just a great laid back afternoon with great people. Early evening we all went over to the reservoir with some walking the path around it, some riding bikes and Bonnie, Tim, Bill, Ted and I kayaking. As in most of Helena, we could see the mountains all around. The water was mostly calm and the place was teeming with birds. There was a loon out front and several white pelicans as we launched our kayaks.

We paddled up to an island that had at least a dozen great blue heron nests, most with chicks still in them. Bonnie said they had seen an owl's nest a week ago but there was no sign of the owl. She also saw a bird with a bright orange chest but I missed it and we weren't able to identify it. On the far side of the reservoir we saw a bald eagle in a tree. It sat there patiently while we got some great pictures. After we had gone by we watched it leave the tree, make one swoop around and pick a fish out of the water not far from where Tim was sitting in his kayak. A gull chased it back into the woods. We saw mallards, other ducks, a grebe like bird and several smaller birds. It was a beautiful evening to be on the water.

Beryl and Virgil had driven to another spot to watch while we were on the water and we stopped there. Trevor and Matt were there and we let them paddle the two wooden kayaks back across while Ted took Tim's. We waited for Holly, Lois and Alissa to walk back to where we were and drove around to load the kayaks. We had paninis and soup when we got back and it was just getting dark at ten when Ted and I left.
