On to Illinois

It never pays to leave early to get ahead of the rain.  We crawled from the southeast side of Nashville to the northwest side in commuter traffic.  We left the campground at 7:30 and it took forever to get through the city.  Because we were traveling so slowly, I was able to get a photo of the skyline.

The good news of the day is gas prices are going down as we travel north.  We paid $3.45 a gallon which is at least twenty cents a gallon cheaper than it was in south Florida.

Driving up through western Kentucky on I-24 we saw more farmland.  There were yellow crops in the fields and all kinds of flowering trees along the highway.

North Sandusky Campground where we are has 50 amp service but no water or sewer.  There is more open space between sites and about the campground.  There is a great place across the road from us to launch some discs.  The lake, whose banks are being eaten by high water, is behind us down a steep bank.  A large group of huge honeysuckle bushes are in bloom all around us and smell so sweet, especially when the light rain that turned into a torrent started falling.  We arrived around 1:30 and the rain started within a half hour or our arrival so it was probably good we started when we did.

On our way to our campsite which is about two miles from the entrance station, we followed a beautiful concrete paved bicycle trail.  We researched the Army Corps of Engineer site for Rend Lake and found that the finished portion of the trail is 20.6 miles long and goes across the dam that forms this lake.  The rain has stopped so we will probably check it out tonight and definitely take a picnic and ride to the dam tomorrow.
