After nine great days with Peaches and Harold, we finally got on the road again. Before leaving, we took our cereal and milk over for one last breakfast with them. Harold had gone out and picked fresh raspberries to put on the cereal... My Favorite!!
We were able to turn around in the driveway but went out onto Cobb Hill Road to hook up the car while Peaches directed traffic on the straight country road. After stopping to dump our tanks at the Four Corners Cenex we headed down Route 191. The road follows the Gallatin River (the same river we paddled farther down) through the Gallatin National Forest and Gallatin Mountains. We both had the feeling that we were going downhill and the river was running in the wrong direction but it must have been an optical illusion as we were actually climbing as Yellowstone is at an elevation of seven thousand feet and above. It was a very pretty ride with bright blue skies and lots of evergreen trees bordering the triad and on the mountain sides.

We drove through Big Ski where there is a big ski resort and stopped at the pullout at the entrance to Yellowstone National Park. I got out to take a photo and a couple who were starting to drive away stopped and asked if I would take their picture. From there, we followed the Montana/Wyoming border until we got to the Rainbow Point Road. The road to the campground is five miles long with the first three miles narrow and paved. The last two miles were washboard dirt with lots of big potholes. Thankfully the campground is nice with lots of pine trees for shade. There is no internet or phone signal so we will have to hand write the blog and catch up later.

After setting up, I sat outside and hand wrote our experiences from the past few days. Ted took the kayaks to the lake to clean them up and to check out the lake. When the sun went behind the clouds, it got cool quickly and we moved inside to read and work on projects.
When we got in bed, we noticed how hard the air mattresses were, a phenomenon we first noticed two years ago when we were at high elevations out west.
